speaker question
i know that u can take out the 4's and replace them w/ 5 1/2's and i believe someone said it can be done w/ 6 1/2's also. what i need to know is there anything special i have to do to get them to fit right or is it as simple as take the old ones out and put the new one's in?

Are you refering to the fronts or rears?
If fronts, you'll have to cut the stock box to fit anything larger than 4", kind of a pain to do.
If rears, up to 6.5 can be installed, might require minor trimming depanding on brand of speakers.

Gotta agree w/ djl...when I removed my inner door panel, that front plastic enclosure sure looked nice as is and it would be a shame to cut it up to fit a larger speaker. But many have done so- all it takes is a hot soldering iron- that plastic melts easily! Or a Dremel tool. The GS forum even has a thread with some pics on how it is done.
The rears are a bit easier- I put a Infinity 6.5" speaker, and the only problem was getting enough clearance to drill new mounting screw holes- the sloping window gets in the way of the drill. Now I know why pro installers use those nifty angle drills. The hole closest to the window had to be drilled from the trunk area upwards.

For the rears, my Boston Proseries 6.5's basket was too wide to clear the metal deck. I bought a 6.5inch platform from Circuit City's install bay. It's basically a black plastic flange ring that raises the baffle about 1-inch higher. It works like a charm, and it's actually better for SQ because between the rear deck and rear dash there's about 1.5 inches of space. If I mounted the speakers in deeper, then sound quality would suffer dramatically.
