trouble with removing w58 manual trans
i just bought a 95 sc300 5 spd with 194k and the secpnd day driving it the clutch goes out... rite now i just need help getting the last 2-3 bolts from the w58 trans so it could come out from under the car. theyre the ones closer to the motor towards the top of the trans. its a pain just cuz i didnt want to take the exhaust out. any tips on what type of tools i can use to make it easier to reach? or anything else i could do? i just hav the car liftd up over jacks in the garage...
try using some swivels sockets and removing the transmission mount so it'll lower the transmission at a angle. btw here's a write up on it https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...56k-no-no.html

ya i did tht already... ya i feel dumb but i think i still need to take out tht whole driveshaft thing so itll actually lower down so i could fit ny hands through and get some room... bout to give it a try right now
drive shaft has to come out to drop a trans. To get to those top few bolts i used a few extensions stacked on top of each other. Removing the tranny crossmember will give you a bit more of an angle to fit that socket up there.
both of them. there are 2 bolts in the middle. That's the carrier bearing, remove both of those. On the driveshaft, there are 6 bolts, but only 3 have to come off to seperate it from the rear end. Before you do, put match marks on the driveshaft and the rear end. This insures that driveshaft balance is maintained when you put the drive shaft back in.

get a pilot bearing puller. or use the wet towel method.
grab a paper towel, soak it, and cram it in bearing hole. use a small punch to get it goin, and itll force the bearing out. might have to use 2 towels depending.

Go rent a pilot bearing puller and slide hammer from autozone. The pilot bearing for the JZ is tiny, you will only be able to insert 1 of the jaws of the puller into the center of the bearing but it is enough. Pull the hammer and it should pull right out.

i just hope it works the same for me if not then i guess ill just go out and buy the tool to remove it but yea that video shows the guy doing it so easy! thanks tho for the info never would have found that towel method thing!

Another advantage of the wadding (paper towel) method, is that it forces the bearing off evenly all the way around and is less likely to cause the kind of binding that CAN occur when you pull asymmetrically from a slide hammer hook on just one side.
we used the wet newspaper method. Yeah I know, I never attempted this before but my boss told me to do so and it worked. Get a small bucket filled with water, and newspaper. Get the newspaper wet, cram the wet newspaper in the bearing hole, hit it in with a bolt or punch. Repeat until bearing comes out.

alrite now got a new proboem... just put everything back and test drove it but at about 25mph thr car vibrates really bad. i just parked it righ now. i think its got sumthing to do with how i put the driveshafthing back together? anyone hav a picture of underneath their car there so i could see if i boltd it correctly?? or if neone knows of some other reason it might b doing that...?
