Default Na-t vs. Swap opinions

I see alot of people here that are trying to build monster SCs. I use mine as a daily driver and didn't know that they had 170-180 whp stock. So I was wondering what would be more better a bolt on turbo kit or a swap? I don't race but I would want a little more power, 240whp would be a good start.

depends if you rebuild the engine, miles on your 2jzge, compression etc. If you get a 2jzgte your going to rebuild it and it'll be more powerful than the na-t?

I've got a na-t setup on my 97 and i'm only running 4psi right now until i get tuned, id say i'm right around 240whp, I raced my buddies 99 GS400 and we go neck and neck, i think those cars put down around 250. My auto SC300 got beat by a friends stock sunfire when it was stock so i know the 4psi has made a huge difference..

I plan on getting it tuned real soon and maxing out my stock fuel system around 8 to 10 psi, hoping for 320 to 350 whp that's all i really need.

trans won't be good for much more anyways.

thanks on the feedback guys, but thanks for clearing this up, I want a trans swap but I mean the money for it could go for something more beneficial though I miss driving standard lol. my 93 just made 57k miles, how much max psi can the stock auto transmission handle?

You will dump at least 4k doing either one right. The best option is sell the 300 and get a sc400!!!. 290hp super reliable and lighter.

You can get by with 3k you just have to know where to pay for quality and where you can skimp. Your stock setup can handle 5-10psi daily and it will last you longer than you will prolly care to keep the car for. May need a new tranny but those are like $200?

As long as you have money and an extra dd, either one will be great.

57K on the SC?? That engine is still a baby!!

Swap or NA-T will set you back around 3K minimum (im just over the 3K mark on my 1J swap and im not done), however with such low mileage on the SC, i would go the NA-T route. The tranny can handle around 300-350hp as long as you don't bash on it too much, just enough until you can upgrade to something stronger like an R154.

this guy is right. if you only want 250rwhp and dont mind OEM automatic, buy SC400 immediately.

if you want to spend 4.5K (more than most sc's are worth) to just change powerplants properly (stock 2jzgte) then you need a 2jzgte.
