Question to be or not to be?

i have a 96 sc300 5spd and i plan to swap out my 2jzge for a gte. but im stuck in a dilemma cuz i saw two different gte's... theres one that has a blue top and says vvti and the other one that doesnt and it dark gray. i read somewhere that both have vvti but the blue one had dual vvti. and the blue one is hard to maintain. can someone break it down for me and tell me which one to get

The early model 2JZ-GTE had a grey valve cover and no VVT-i. It's specs were rated at 320hp and 310lbft.

The blue top 2JZ-GTE has VVT-i and was quoted with a bump in torque to 332lbft from the previous version, though the QUOTED hp remained the same. I don't think "dual vvti" exists.

Google search "Toyota jz engine guide"

Seems pretty straightforward to me

I'd go for the non-VVT-i myself. As far as I was aware, variable valve timing systems become an issue with tuning. Also, there's no good reason IMO to get variable valve timing if you plan to build the motor anyway.
