Cabin air filter
I was just wondering, I am pretty sure our SCs have cabin air filters, I was just wondering where it is? I have a 94 SC and god knows the last time it has ever been replaced. What is a good brand to replace the cabin air filter with and how often should you replace it? I haven't seen much info on this anywhere. Does K&N make a replacement filter for it?
Well I already use the K&N drop in filter for my air intake box and I am going to do the BFI mod this summer, but isn't there a separate air filter for strictly the cabin air filter or is it all the same filter?
The US SC does not come with a cabin filter. However you can put on in if you like. It is located on the pass side under the blower motor(?). This is the part no. if you want the OE 88880-30040.

I said the same thing when I opened mine up. It was full of dirt, small leaves, and bugs. I havent had it out since. Their were 3 auto parts stores said that it didint have one, but Lexus said it did, and 50 dollars later, it was in. I sprayed mine very lightly with FeBreeze.
All of them did not come with a filter from the factory, and there is a TSB for it, something about a "musty smell in the cabin." I think they put it in there for owners with sensitive noses and maybe allergy issues. all the new toyotas/lexuses come with em (Scions don't though...kinda weird...

Its just a panel under the glove box that clips in, followed by 2 wing nuts and it's open. Last time mine was open was when i was cleaning out the nest of the chipmunk that ****ed up my car

Inside that "wing nut" access panel above the passenger's feet is the heat exchanger/expansion chamber for the climate control. Really a great unit, all told.....BUT. The floor of that chamber is NOT fuly self draining. The water that collects in there ddvelops moldew and it smells just like it should....bad. Ther are sprays like Listerol or the GM product for AC units or bathroom mildew cleaner that all work. Open up the little door on the bottom and squirt a bunch of the stuff of your choice up into the chamber. It will only work for a while so, like oil changes, ya gotta repeat.
Removing the interior panels is a pain and I polayed with the idea of using a thin pllastic tube to squirt the stuff up inside thechamber from the outside up through the drain tube.
The filter thing would involve a charcoal element of a odor supresion chemical but that seems reall expensive. Lex didn't bother cause our roads aren't dirt. I don't have a filter in my 93 SC400 and I have never missed it....especiall if it cot $35 to nothing I could notice.
