Just thought I'd share some cam specs from the work done at Crower. These are regrinds of my stock cams.

Advertised Camshaft Specifications:
Intake 270 degrees Lift .362 Clearance Hot .006
Exhaust 268 degrees Lift .374 Clearance Hot .008

Intake opens 4.0BTDC
Closes 36.0ABDC

Exhaust opens 44.0BBDC
Closes -4.0BTDC

Lobe Separation 110 degrees

Duration at .050"
Intake 220 degrees
Exhaust 220 degrees

Lobe Lift
Intake .362
Exhaust .374

Cost is around $250 including 2nd day shipping and the necessary lash caps.

Process took around two weeks.

This cam profile is pretty close to the HKS 272 cams for the Supra TT. (A little more mild, but not much).

Its about as aggressive as recommended for a street car. Idle is said to be a little lumpy, but not horrible... We shall see.

Any questions, feel free to ask. These are supposed just like Ethan Bank's cams for his 1000hp SC300.

To compliment the cams, the car is getting upgraded Crower springs and TI retainers, Porting and polishing the head with 5 angle valve job. This should get it to the point where I won't have to redo it for awhile.

Now all I have to do is rev the s#!t out of it to make power.
8000rpm should do.

 

Congrats on the cams. Something I will check out once things get going for me w/ a t60-1. Your car is impressive. Through what rpm range is the best performance with your set-up?

As it was, the real sweet spot in the rev band was 3500-6000.

I may loose a little on the bottom end with the new cam profile, but it will mainly be the same only with a big kick from 5500-8500rpm.

With stock compression, since I can't boost higher, the only alternative its to rev higher.

Thoughts are that by moving the power up higher, I get a more progressive power curve as rpms increase. This will hopefully yield a big top end while limiting wheelspin.

In looking at the calculators for power---turbocalc, etc. The only way to increase power on the same gas, same engine, without introducing something else to the mix or raising boost is to spin faster. The only way to effectively spin faster is to keep the VE high so that you can make power. The cam profile, special valve job, porting and polishing and a general cleanup will keep the VE high at these RPMs allowing the power gain.

I'm hoping for around 500rwhp on pump gas at stock compression, with 350+rwhp as low as 4000rpm.

That's going to smooth out your power real nice,not too bad of a price either,it's still going to have a good midrange.
I've heard of a few turbo Porsche guys using an S cam with a similar profile to get the car to be less peaky on the top,and get more torque in the midrange.

 

revving to 8k rpms? you forgetting the hard fuel cut at 6500rpms?
you gonna get a standalone or something?

 

AEM or equivalent... Not decided yet.
I believe Dave H is going to try the AEM on his NA-T Supra.
Larry at SP has given me the indication that the Supra unit should be drop in compatible with the SC300. Larry is in the process of tuning the AEM on some Supras, he should have a stronger opinion on the AEM v.s. Speedpro within a few weeks.

Quite a few people have managed OEM or better drivability so far with the AEM unit.

 

cool; iw as planning on using the AEM or speedpro as well...

i'm 99% sure the AEM is a dropin for the SC3 when using the N/A AEM... after screwing with the ECU of mine and using N/A Supra pinouts; it looks the same

PF assured me the AEM is the same too, but the Speed Pro has alot of nice features.

 

I just wish Jeff would have bought this box instead of the Haltech, could sap off his base maps...

I've seen these on ebay as low as $1240... Anyone else have a cheap source? It looks like I'm gonna take the plunge for this mod. I just have to get the head back on and re-do my leak down test to make sure the compression is up to normal. If not, the money will have to go into a shortblock. Yuk.

 

well i went with what my tuner likes and knows works......speed pro isnt bad...and AEM sounds good.....but i dont like being a guiene pig....i like known reliable products.....experience is worth the cash......and ill have HKS 264 cams in my sc upon completion...Jeff
