HID Color "flicker" and 4100K vs. 6000K
Ok folks, to settle this issue, I emailed AutoLamps Online...now considering that Nick of AutoLamps use to WORK for Philips for 12 years, I think he might know what he's talking about...
------------------------------------
The colour shift is caused by the diffraction of the light coming through the ellipsoidal lenses on the projector style headlight system, all OE HID (including Audi,BMW etc) are the 4100k D2 which you have in your kit.
Some of your members are not the only ones to want this look and this is the reason that Philips produced the 6000K Ultinon lamps for the aftermarket, which give a much bluer light output and you get a change in appearance due to the different metal halides used in the lamp burner unit. As we have said, the visual appearance of these 6000K lamps is much nearer to the visual appearance of the ellipsoidal HID systems but you do lose 20% lumen output, meaning the performance is not as good as the 4100K and it really is, therefore, down to the individual if they want the look or the performance.
Please note the Philips Ultinon lamps achieve this colour difference by changing the internal pressures and the metal halides in the lamp and the glass burner remains clear, there are Asian lamps that claim the same colour temp and higher but this is achieved by coatings on the glass and the performance is anything up to 80% less light output compared to an OE HID system.
Because the D2S and D2R 6000K Philips that we sell are currently the best price available on the internet we can really only offer your members a 5% discount on a pair, they are guaranteed Philips 60000K made in Aachen Germany.
------------------------------------------
I have decided to go with the 4100K kit (which is here, I will be posting a thread in the LOBBY as a sticky so look for it...I'll post the link here once I post the thread....) for the following reasons...
WHY MANARAY PICKED 4100K AND NOT 6000K
1) 4100K puts out more light. PERIOD. The point of a HID upgrade is to get more light.
2) The 6000K kit, which I've seen in real life, looks purple. It LOOKS aftermarket. It's something I can see ricers getting excited about (the same ones that put the blue LED's on their windshield squirters...DUDE! THEY'RE LIKE BLUE!!)
3) For $100 more, why get something that looks overly aftermarket?

His post doesn't make clear if you get the 5% discount on the 4100 lamps as well as the 6100?? I am going to wait for your review before I purchase so get with it man!

the 5% off is for the D2R and D2S bulbs ONLY (not the kit...) This is for people who already have HID's but insist on having 6000K bulbs...also, the discount applies to the 4100K bulbs if you need one for a replacement...
But like they said, 6000K's lumens is 20% LESS than 4100K...so don't believe the bull***** on eBay about about how bright 6000K lamps are...they're NOT.
The price for the KIT (for people who don't have stock HID's) is $450 for the 4100K and $550 for the 6000K kit...those prices INCLUDE shipping.

Well I'm glad Nick squared that issue away. Maybe now some people will believe me when I tell them the first time, or maybe they don't trust a 12-year veteran of Philips either
To clarify, 6000K won't give you color flicker in reflector headlights either, it'll be solid state bluish white. The Philips Ultinon is advertised as 2800lu and the Philips OEM is 3200lu, so it's actually about a 12.5% light loss by those figures, (or a 14% gain from 6000K to 4100K).
Manaray, depending on the kit results in your SC400, I maybe scrap the whole 3-series retrofit project and take the easy way out with a kit.

No need for a group buy, the prices I listed are the best they'll do and that price is available to any PAID ClubLexus member no matter how many members buy...
I just installed mine tonight ...please check out the review/install...
