Default high-pitched whine while reversing

Alright, so here's my issue... about a week ago i noticed that while reversing, my car would make a little whining/moaning noise. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does, it's getting louder. It's ONLY when reversing, and no, the e-break isn't on, but it kinda sounds like it does when you leave it on. And it's only when the car is rolling or in motion... like if I hit the break, the whine stops, but then i back up again and the noise starts again. My car has been acting pretty sluggish and hesitating lately, I figured it'd just needed a tune up or something... BTW it's a 95 SC400 w/ 136k miles. All the opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Alot of cars make that sound in reverse. Mine does it while going forward though, sounds like a supercharger or somethhing. I don't know why

I dunno... I've never had a car make this noise in reverse, it's reeeally loud, like the break pads are shot or something. but it's not happening when i hit the break, it's happening when i let off the break...

its normal for a manual transmission.. not an automatic transmission.

check your brakes and rotors.

Reverse is usually a straight cut gear, not synchronized. Hence the noise.
