Default How do they do it so quick?

I've brought my car to get it's oil changed since I've gotten my SC. They never put the bolts/nuts back in after they are through though, as many on here have said. So I want to change it myself. I was reading the threads on here, and they say to let the oil drain for an hour. When I used to bring it in, it only takes about 30 minutes though. How do they do it so quick? It only cost about $8 (if i supply the oil, and filter), and that's the only thing making me want to let them change it. But how do they do it so quick?

Alot of places are 10 min or less. Who told you it takes an hour? Thats a bit overkill. Maybe if you're switching to synthetic, and want all the regular oil to drip out completely or if you've neglected to change your oil on a regular basis, but waiting an hour is a bit time consuming; and in my eyes, a bit unecessary.

Some CL members are **** about their oils and want to drain out as much as they can. As for me, I let it drain for 10 minutes max on a warm engine. Hell, I got other things to do besides waiting the the oil to drain. The key is regular and short oil change intervals and not how long you should let the oil drain out.

I just got back from having it done. It took them 20 minutes JUST to find the oil filter and take it out. The oil was done draining before they found the filter. I guess it was because they were high school guys. I wish I had a lift like they had, then I would do everything to my car myself. They tried to keep one of my quarts that they didn't use, good thing I was watching them like a hawk.

Man, those sound like sheisty MFers. Take your car to a real oil changer next time. It took me all of one minute to locate the oil filter for the first time, shouldn't have taken them more than that. Some places are $20 for an oil change which works out to be less than $8 in labor and it gets done quicker and probably much better.
