Common problems with a '92 SC400?
I'm in the market for a Lexus SC400 I am looking at an 1992 SC400 with 160K miles on it, and I'm wondering what kinda problems can I expect to find and what would I possibly need to replace?
any advice would be helpful! I never considered buying a Lexus for a second car

Here's a few things I would check: I would check if the power steering pump was leaking, the motor mounts and if the cd changer worked. Most importantly, I would check if the car has been service regularly by Lexus. If it has, you should be o.k. Before buying it, I would have Lexus conduct the inspection. I'm told it's the same inspection done on their certified used vehicles -- about $150 to $200. It's worth the price. Also, if either door has ever been replaced due to an accident, check the seals and how it lines up with the rest of the car.
This is all I can think of right now. I'm sure the other members can suggest other items to look for.

do a search and you will find all the things but just a few things that I needed to do..
Speedo light bulbs and needles. may be intermittent so have the dealer give you a specific warranty on it.
Center console LED
Power steering pump (notorious)
condensation in headlamps (almost unavoidable.
slow windows (nothing you can do but can lower the price)
broken CD-player (cd-cartrige malfunction)
suspension bushing (not common)
Tranny mount (normal wear and tear) If this is very worn you will hear a metallic sound when you shift. (you can only hear this from outside the car close to the fender)
break lines
some of the 92's had a ABS recall check for that.
slow shifting @ 30 mph and vibration @ 70mph(may only be fluid needing change or torque converter problem)
visually check if the alternator is soiled. If it is the power steering pump may have had problems and ask when it was replaced.
warm it up and check idle. (idle for 8-10 mins on hot day 12-18 mins during cold days)
hood and trunk shocks.
