Default How do you kick the mod bug addiction?

Especially when you're on a budget and you'd prefer to stay away from that plastic card that has crazy interest rates??? Please share methods on how you've overcome this, not how you gave into it...thank you!

Either close your wallet or stop logging on to CL for a while!

I gave my girlfriend my credit cards so I won't use them.

I also stay away from "for sale" threads and only look at the "WTB" threads.

Only buy stuff with cash (credit cards are the devil)

If you are on a budget then get cheap stuff like a new E-brake boot or cleaning stuff to detail the exterior/interior. You can buy things piece by piece instead of all at once like for example if you wanted to upgrade your brakes you could buy some pads, then rotors and then some calipers etc...

If you sell the car you mod and buy something else it will drive you crazy after a while and youll either cave and get a car to mod or find something else to satisfy your needs like electronics or R/C cars etc... which is also expensive.

Read this book.

hehehe... you'll quit after reading it. hehe or at least cut back.

Buy a house (if you haven't already) and focus all your attention on that instead of your car.

I feel you guys. It is truely an addiction. I usualy do the free mods, like removing stuff ,lol

I did plenty of free mods so far, then i made the deal with wifey to buy stuff only if i sell stuff from my car.

Like when i bought my racing seats ,i sold my factory seats plus some tools, then factory cd changer...you know...the stuff we dont use anymore.

Another thing is, you can spend money on your car from doing side jobs. The full time job i have, i pay the bills and save the rest. I only spend money if i sell my toys or car parts.(as you probably can tell by looking at my car lol)

If you need something for your ride ....wait....wait ...and wait....it will come pretty cheap at the right time.

I only buy with cash, or debit. So if I don't have the cash to buy it, theres no way in hell its going on a credit card. Saved me from already buying a 2j.

Stop looking at cool cars, so you'll have fewer ideas for mods. Thats usually always my problem. I see something on a completly different car and want to incorporate it onto mine.

Goodluck!

I'm with this guy. All the money I use for modifying comes from doing side car jobs. My job does everything else.

You don't. Unless you get rid of the car.
