Engine shuts off when hot
I am relatively new to this forum but I have recieved a lot of very helpful information from it so I thought I would try and give back to the community.
I own a 1992 sc300 5mt (basically stock the gte thing was just wishful thinking I guess) and for the longest time it would shut off when I tried to start it. It would normally happen when the car was hot. It would just sputter for a little while and then die at startup.
I noticed that there were a lot of other threads on this so I thought that I would add my 2 cents on the subject.
I finally took the car to one of my good friends (who is a toyota mechanic) and had him look at it. He ran lots of tests on it and finally figured out that it was my fuel pump ecu. 350 from the dealership a 12 pack for my friend and problem solved.

most of us just bypass the fuel pump ecu when it goes bad. there is a thread on this forum to DIY. it costs nothing to do and will fix the problem. or you could get a used one from the classifieds for much cheaper.
