Otherwise, get a Supra over a SC3 because it is a much better performance equipped starting point for those who wish to be Fast and the Furious. Just 2 cents from the other side of the spectrum. In regards to which chassis to choose I do agree with you. The only issue is the cost difference between the 2 chassis'. I'm sure most people (including myself) who choose to set up their SC's with various racing setups would rather have a Supra, but the price of the Supra is ridiculous. Essentially, with the SC you get the same car. Stock for stock the supra is handles better and is better suited for the track. Alternatively, after suspension and power upgrades there isn't much that separates them in terms of level of performance. Therefore, the SC is just a better deal. Don't get me wrong, the SC has good looks and sex appeal as well

For cost issues, I can see how a turbo mod SC3 may be a good route to go. However, the Supra comes with an LSD, full suspension, and forced induction out of the box. I think the market price reflects the value of the difference in all models mentioned from SC 3,4, and Supra. Sure would be a lot of fun cruising around in a single turbo SC3 sleeper dressed up for the prom, though. Just offering a look at the other side of the coin from a design purest perspective is all. The $400,000,000 Toyota invested in the 4.0's development can sometimes be unappreciated from the F&F crowd.

And the 0.1 sec 0-60 and 0.2 sec in the quarter the 400 lb lighter SC3 5 spd manual trails behind the SC400 auto.

"ACCELERATION
Year, Model, & Drivetrain 0 - 60 mph Quarter mile
1992 SC300 4-speed auto 7.2 sec 15.8 sec at 89 mph
1992 SC300 5-speed manual 6.8 sec 15.4 sec at 90 mph
1995 SC400 4-speed auto 6.7 sec 15.2 sec at 93 mph
1998 SC400 5-speed auto 6.3 sec 14.7 sec at 97 mph"

Luckily, all mentioned iterations of the Soarer are great vehicles.

No I meant that there was a 400lb difference between a supra and an SC

My bad. There is only a 98 lb advantage to owning a SC3 5spd manual over a SC4. Just having a little fun with the sibling rivalry.

which means that there is a 165lb AND a 55WHP advantage to driving a 5-speed swapped 1UZ over an auto SC3

My only retort would be that an engine is like a *****; size matters, 400 > 300.

I'm a turbo inline 6 guy, although I have to agree with you. After all, THERE'S NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT

^^^The 92 has less options on it than all other years. My SC weighs 3560lbs with me in it with the spare tire and tools out.

3200lbs for an n/a supra

3600lbs for an SC400

I was just reciting numbers off the top of my head, Does it really matter? My point was that a big difference between a Supra and a SC was weight.

With that in mind, I guess it depends on what you want to build.

Since the SC400 weighs 10% more than a Supra, if you just care about acceleration and not handling, dollar for dollar, can one build a V8 to make 10% more power than a built I6?
