Default Sc300 vs 400

I'm in the market right now for sc300/400 but not sure what to get. 98-99 sc400 are pretty rare and expensive, while 92-97 sc400 are bunch. I know that 98-99 400s got 290hp engine but older engine (92-97) is weak. Is there a big difference in acceleration between 92-97 Sc400 and 98-99 sc300?

99 Sc3 > 97 and under sc4, for so many obvious reasons.

98+ sc400 if your not looking to do to many engine mods. sc300 if you do plan to do alot of engine mods.

for what youd pay for 98-99 4 you can get a clean 3 and swap it. probably have something left over for some general tsos chicken afterwards. if youre one of the lucky ones you might just find a manual.

It seems more logical to buy a Supra rather than get a SC3 to mimic one. Think of the segment this car was designed for; there is a lot of engineering in there to achieve the lux coupe cruiser. An aluminum V8, not meant to be modded, was the top model designation that evolved into the SC430. Get a 4 if you really love the factory design presentation intended for the U.S. market. Otherwise, get a Supra over a SC3 because it is a much better performance equipped starting point for those who wish to be Fast and the Furious. Just 2 cents from the other side of the spectrum. Before I bought my 97' SC400, I test drove a 98' SC300 which I almost purchased. The car definately felt it like it had more pick up in the low end, probably due to the vvt-i. The pre-98 SC400 only really comes alive in the upper band because of the lack of valve timing. If I could go back, I would still take my 97' over the SC300 anyday. Even if the SC300 was faster, I just love the growling tone the V8 gives you. Of course, if I had found a 98+ SC400, I would have been all over that, but I wasn't patient enough. Patience is a virtue!

Try and find a 2000 SC 300. Good year since it's the last!
