Uhm no, consider the way higher mileage than your current 5spd, and the fact that your current is a 5spd that it woops the vvti 2jz in that 98 every day of the week. Interior doesn't look that clean from the picture and seriously silver and black interior sc are not all that rare.

Sorry for bashing, you asked for honest opinion.

Keep the 5spd. Just upgrade the body if you really want a 98+

way too many miles and no a/c, bad tires and brakes and an lca?..for the cost of repairs and maintenance you could piece together a 97 conversion...or atleast half of it.

I dont know why so many are concerned about miles, ITS A 2JZ!!! not to mention if you sold yours for 5k and got the 98 for 3.5k you would have enough to fix the minor crap wrong with it. 5-speed isnt all its cracked up to be, they are weak stock so you have to swap an R154 anyway if you make any power. Id rather have a 97+ automatic than a 92-96 5-speed and if it bothers that much just swap it, most people would swap the motor anyway eventually.

Most people havent owned an pre 97 and post 97 as i have and there was some changes made that you just cant replicate, too many little "improvements" that all add up. Trust me if you go with the 98 you wont regret it, i would NEVER own a 92-96 again after having my 97, nor would i own another horrible tan interior. Consider this also, if you plan on keeping an SC and modding it, if you cover it with full coverage insurance whats worth more a 94 or a 98???

I thought the same thing until I sat in my 52k miles SC300 for the first time. Mileage is extremely important on any car. Everything plastic erodes eventually.
