Default removing car phone

I have a 94 sc400 with car-phone system. Now that the whole idea of carphone has been obsolete in the days of cellphone, I'm trying to remove it which is located inside the arm-rest-box. Has anyone tried this? Will cutting off wires cause any electrical failure of other devices?

I have removed mine. I didn't cut any wires, they all unscrew or unplug. As I remember, it was a little trick getting it out, but it does come out without having to break anything. I still need to remove the antenna. Anyone know how to get that thing off the rear glass and what I should do about the whole it leaves? I was thinking some clear packing tape on the inside and a university sticker on the outside.

i removed mine also, and there was no wires to cut. just tricky on getting the screws out. but as far as the rear window, there should NOT be a hole. it's just magnetic and double sided tape. i didn't want to waste my time by pulling the existing wires out of the ceiling, so i just cut the end and tucked it into the ceiling, where it was originally was. now there is nothing in site! good luck

I know this is an old thread, but I am having issues and cannot find the prior thread I was reading about this issue. The car phone is putting all my speakers to ATT mode. The number 3 button on steering wheel is not working, and un-plugging the phone system does nothing. HELP????

The car phone could still be heard through the speakers when the radio was stuck in ATT mode.

If it's considered illegal here in California to be driving with a cell phone, image having a car phone LOL!

I'd hook one up in a heart beat and use it Nino Brown circa 1991 style.

To effectively disable the phone system, go into the trunk. On the left side in the same area as the power antenna you will find a big transceiver box with Motorola S/N's. Unbolt that, disconnect it and toss it at your nearest electronics recycler. There is a small box bolted onto the main transceiver if I recall. That can go too. They should be clearly labeled as to what their functions are.

You will find two harness connectors that you disconnected from the transceiver(s) that look extremely easy to plug into each other. Do exactly that. Now you've disabled the Lexus Phone brain and eliminated the beep.

As for the steering wheel controls, as soon as you swap in a three spoke steering wheel you'll eliminate those anyway.

The mic, speaker, antenna wiring and a couple of spare pre-wired connectors in the console will still be there but they aren't worth going to the trouble of removing.
