Knew it was a matter of time. I have a Chaser R154 was playing around with a buddy the other night for some crazy reason I decided to do a second gear pull instead of usual third on highway. Long story short I lost 1st and reverse and there's a lot of vibration when driving in every gear. Will get it rebuilt with OEM Toyota/MC Parts. Will also look into short shifter options. Tranny hasn't been pulled yet so I have no pics of carnage or anything. Oh yea I made 433rwhp at 16psi, can't remember torque numbers but they were close. Car was hitting 18psi that night.
Not really, the shifter bushings were bad so I would say it had some miles, I'm about to order all the MC stuff from driftmotion today.
Sucks to hear bro . im on my second r154 also. I also lost first and third and all gears were loud and vibrating.
Are you rebuilding or getting a new box?

I'm going to rebuild with MC parts for now. I've heard good things about using MC parts so we'll see.Originally Posted by sc250tt

Man, how much abuse do you think you yourself put on it? How long did you have it? Also, did you shift up to third, or did it crap out on you during the 2nd gear pull?
*edit* I'm not saying that you were a bad driver in any way for "abusing" it. I am just wondering how strong of a tranny it is since I myself have one.

I would say I abused it pretty well lol. The car isn't my daily so I enjoy it when I can. I don't remember when it crapped out but more than likely when I shifted to third I never made it to 4th because I had to slow down and that's when I noticed something was different. As long as you take it easy you should be fine. I just spoke to Aaron at driftmotion and according to him none of the transmissions rebuilt with Marlin Crawler R154 Thrust Washer and Chromoly Steel Bearing Retainers have had issues. That's what I'm going with for rebuild so we'll see. As long as you don't slam gears you should be fine. If I babied this trans I'm sure it would have lasted longer.Originally Posted by lemmiewink

i'm interested to know what a difference the mc parts will make for you, but maybe this is the perfect time to go 6speed

Lexus Test Driver
The 6 speed is not needed for what he's doing, the speed swap will be about 6k or more depending if you are doing your own swap or paying for labor.
Just let Matt rebuild it and keep moving, worst case u can pick another MK3 r154 and swap over the rest of the parts, extended shifter and bellhousing !! Done
