Hi all. I just became the proud owner of a SC300 with about $30000 worth of mods. The car is my pride and joy! I have a classic car that is insured through Hagerty. I'm trying to get some insurance on the Lexus but I have not been able to get anyone to insure it for what I'd like to have it covered for. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hagerty will not cover it and I've tried a couple others with no luck. Thanks guys!

Geico is covering everything I am installing on my 92 SC300, and they said if I add anything else to the car to let them know..all I had to do was take some pics and I set up my policy online with an estimated value of the items...and not all the parts are installed yet, and still covered..just be descriptive with each item, and be sure to include the brand of each item in the description

 

I think I know who's SC you bought. Geico, StateFarm, Allstate all have mod policy's. If the person on the phone is telling you they don't offer it. call corporate.

 

^^^correct, i have geico and they ask me if i have any aftermarket or performance parts everytime i call.

 

does your policy go up w/ mods?

I have state farm and am not sure if they offer a mod based policy, but would like to further inquire upon it.
I just don't want to add coilovers or some other modification and then my insurance jack up the price a bit.

Do they charge extra for having mods?

 

Obviously If the value of your car is now $15,000 as opposed to $5,000, it would not be in the best interests of the insurer to take 3 times the risk without being able to recover some financial benefit...

this thread needs some pics big time, but i think there was a thread on supraforums (possibly a sticky) that is all about insurance on modified supras. I'd take a look there.
