Default Need SC owners advice

I found a 5 speed sc with 189,000 miles. This car will be my DD, and I will be driving a lot for school. I just want a heads up for what type of problems most SC's run into at around that millage. Is it a good idea for me to buy a car with that much millage, or should I wait it out until I can find a lower millage 5 speed. Hope this is the right section =) thanks in advance.

only problems i ever hear of:

~Cracked Air vents, and always in the same damn spot
~Mafs can be a little temperamental some times
~Some people complain of gas mileage, Those people are also the ones that have sex with trees, and whos idea of foreplay is recycling used paper
~with that many miles, you might need a new clutch depending on when it was changed.
~ ripped seats, so the leather gets worn out, who cares

All and all depending on the previous owner, the car is probably good for another 100,000 miles easy.

I picked up my Sc400, Auto back at 66k miles, and i bet the ***** out of it on the track daily, motor is now up to 199,992 miles and shes still happy as can be. Now i understand these are 2 different cars, But toyota and lexus are notorious for being ridiculous when it comes to reliability and the amount of mileage you can stack on before they start getting cranky.

How much is it? and what kind of shape is it in?

bought mine at 148k. needs

window switch
cracked vents
leather in bad shape (14 year old florida car with no tints, to be expected)
maf a little screwy.

and the biggie, leaky rear main seal. not a huge deal considering the price i paid and the fact im swapping a 1j. but is a pricey repair if youre keeping it stock and not doing the work yourself. not a typical SC problem. but something to look into on any older car.

The guy told me 3900. I'm just trying to convince my dad to get it for me haha and I'll pay him back after the summer job. I'm trying to convince my dad that 5 speed is rare haha and the price isn't bad, and that it's a damn toyota! lol. I was thinking about getting another 240, but I just fell in love with SC's!! All I've been doing was drooling over nice SC's all day haha My dads main arguement is he doesn't want me to get it because of the millage, and it may have alot of problems, but I'm sure he'll give in, after all, hes a toyota guy, and had a celica that lasted well over 300,000 miles haha

inspect the crank pulley. doing a timing belt job with all the fixin's. check your valve cover gaskets and coolant hoses running anywhere near the throttle body. sometimes those go bad and dump coolant into the spark plug galley.

Mine had 102K when i bought it and the same minor problems stated in the above posts: cracked front a/c vent and some sun wear on the leather, but they ride like a dream and can realy take a beating. Just get a full maintenance job if you get it!

It's black with tan interior, and I haven't talked to the guy much because I have to convince my dad that it's worth it. I'll ask!!

Finding a 5 speed SC with about that many miles on it is very common. If it were up to me I'd just find a clean automatic SC with really low miles and convert it. Most of the problems you'll run into will be in the engine bay. Leaky power steering pump. Leaky valve covers gaskets. Worn clutch. Leaky distributor O-ring. Separating crank pulley. Bad diff fluid. That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

you can get a better SC for that price if youre patient.

tan interior youll find everyday

black youll find everyday. dont quote me on this but i think black is second most common color after old man tan. after black is red or diamond white pearl.

this isnt a once in a lifetime car. i would hold off
