If you're really building this engine and trying to tweak the most potential out of it, then you know this aluminum block isn't the factor why it's not as popular as the inline 6. The main factor is because it's so damn hard to make a turbo or supercharger to fit in the engine bay. Every single thing has to be custom made and it'll be quite expensive if you don't do it.
There's actually more than a handful of people in the U.S. and a lot of people in other countries that have been using this engine to swap into other custom cars and boost the heck out of it. This engine is also used on airplane and boat in custom applications. There're also custom internal parts to build this engine to be bullet proof. If you're interested, I'll be more than happy to link the reference. There're some specific forums dedicated only to this engine and its sibling V8.
Dude, you only need to change the starter for once in your lifetime when you own it. The starter can last up to 200,000 miles easily. Do you think you'll own the engine to 1,000,000 mile and change the starter 5 times? Think again!

Thanks for proving my point. Do you think this guy has the money to customize this and strengthen that, but if he has the sc300 all he needs is a Turbo, bigger exhaust, and injectors, H.O. fuel pump and engine management and poof-500 HP. (give or take..)

Thanks all...had the 99 sc300 checked out and it only needs 4 tires and an alignment. I will keep the sc300 & sc400 for a little while but then decide which to keep. Right now I am leaning toward selling the sc400. I just have to figure out a good asking price for a good condition 97 sc400 with 120k miles.

Dude give it up already, you lost. More people would buy the SC300 over the SC400. Either we are all wrong or you are, so move on. I personally would like to continue this mano y mano. I would like to know what you would do to the 400 to give it the boost, and what 3400 lbs cars can drift with that few of horse power. With the same 3000$, on the SC300 I could get Turbo kit, coil overs and EMS. Checkmate.

Honestly, wtf is the point to adding all that performance shiznit in a 1st gen SC? Not only are you helping to put your SC in an early grave but you are probaly not even going to beat a moded civic. Pouring money down the crapper. You'll need the money for maintanance. Get a car with real performance potential (ie Supra, 240 etc). If you want luxury then get a Lexus. If you want the quickest stock SC for crusing then get a 98+SC400. Don't blow your good hard earned money.
