Default sc400 lsd on sc300 questions please help

I have a SC300 and a buddy of mine has a sc400 parts car that has a lsd. I have searched for a while and havnt been able to find information on that lsd. Did the sc400 come with an option to have one? how is the gear ratio on it? and also what would be a reasonable price for purchasing it?

FYI i have a 5spd turbo sc300.

thanks!

The SC400 didn't come with an LSD. If your buddy's car has one, it's been added since the factory.

Is your buddy certain lol?

An easy way to tell is to jack up the rear and spin a tire. If the tire on the opposite side spins the opposite direction you have an open diff.(left tire spun forward when you turned the right tire backwards). That OR the clutches are work out and of needs a rebuild anyways.

If it spins the same direction, it's either welded or limited slip.

By the way, another neat trick is to count driveshaft revolutions and wheel revolutions. Divide (not 100% which way it is) driveshaft revolutions by wheel revolutions and that's your rear end ratio.

ok cool, good info to know, thanks i'll make sure of it before hand.

if it is indeed an lsd and not a welded diff or open diff, i'm looking for a ballpark figure for how much a reasonable price would be.

I did a quick google shopping search for SC400 LSD and 800$ was the cheapest thing I found. Considering it's a parts car and probably has some mileage on that diff I would start my offer at 350$. Keep in mind if it's used it may need a rebuild soon and that's $$$!

Not quite right, If it were a aftermarket TRD with clutches this would be the right info but with a factory Toyota LSD this test is not right. Factory LSD rears use Torsen gears for the traction transfer and are quite effecient I might add. The only real positive way to identify a factory LSD is to pull the cover and have a look, I can get you pics of it if you need.

Bottom line is the only way his car could have a LSD is someone had to swap it there, they were only offered in the Supra's from what I know.
