Because in queensland, Australia, we have laws that don't allow people under the age of 20 to drive a vehicle with:

- eight or more cylinders
- a turbo-charged or super-charged engine that is not diesel powered
- an engine that has a power output of more than 200 kW as per the manufacturer's specifications
- a rotary engine that has an engine capacity of more than 1146cc as per the manufacturer's specifications
- a modified engine that must be approved under the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999, section 30.

The following vehicles are exempt and can be driven:

- Suzuki Cappuccino 2D Cabriolet Turbo 3 657-698cc (1992-1997)
- Daihatsu Copen L880 2D Convertible Turbo 4 659cc (2003 or later)
- Smart fortwo coupe 2D Turbo 3 698cc (2000 or later)
- Smart fortwo Cabriolet Turbo 3 2D 698cc (2000 or later)
- Smart Roadster Turbo 3 2D 698cc (2000 or later).

So thats why.

Also if the vaccuum created by your intake is much greater than the volume of air the filter can pass through it, your bypass valve will open. And it isnt a very effective filter on the bypass valve.

lol i'm glad to see at least one person on here knows how they work, most people act like they are some kind of fail safe, others thing the bypass valve spits water out if it's sucked lol..

Here is an old article that shows how the valve works. http://www.modified.com/tech/0104scc...lve/index.html

Q: When should I use an Air Bypass Valve?

A: Do NOT use an Air Bypass Valve on engines equipped with forced induction (turbo or superchargers). The increased flow demands created by the forced induction could damage the valve and lead to engine damage.

The AEM Bypass Valve protects the engine from ingesting water and hydro-locking if the filter becomes submerged in water. Hydro locking occurs when the end of the inlet pipe is submerged in water and the water is sucked into the engine. Driving the vehicle in rainy conditions is not enough to cause a problem unless the vehicle submerges enough that the inlet end of the pipe is immersed in water. Rain impingement on the filter will not cause a hydro lock condition.
is this the bypass valve you speak of?

Bump this thread up

Alright, I noticed that you have no sign of your MAF here, how did you get to bypass the signal from the MAF and Air Temp Sens to the ECU?

Thanks
