Unless your loaded with cash, i dont see any reason to spend more money on making a 1uz faster then a JZ, their are better things to spend money on then just cars.
uh heh I think you've been over ruled. He already made a decision so....stop

Bang for the Buck, The UZs just Suck.
You keep bashing the SC400 while you don't even have 1. Your statements aren't strong enough when you don't know much about the 1UZ. I drove stock SC300, SC400, SC400 with 1JZ, SC400 with 2JZGTE. Sadly enough, the SC3 is ok, but not as powerful as the SC4.

You gotta know where the SC4 power is. You might not see its power at dead stop, so you think it's similar as the SC3. The SC4 power comes in at around 3000 RPM. If you brake-torque both cars, the SC4 smokes the SC3 easily. On the highway, the SC3 will lose to the SC4 for sure. The reason the SC4 doesn't feel powerful at dead stop is because of its smooth tranny at first gear. Its ECU doesn't have much timing at low end. But everything changes once it's over 3000 RPM.

**Now let's talk about being cheap with power. Supercharging the SC4 will be around $2K, which is even cheaper than swapping the 1JZ. There're 2 options for supercharging. It's either with the Lextreme's fish bracket that works with Procharger or Vortech. The second option is using the Richwood manifold and use the Eaton M90.

Swapping the1JZ will be around $2.5K-3.5K. Remember swapping means you buy an old engine with unknown history. It can be a troubled engine.

Turbocharging the SC4 will be more expensive. It's about $3K with your labor and up to more than $5K, depending on parts quality. So let's not talk about it.

**Now let's talk about power. A supercharged SC4 with 7-8 psi (untuned engine, only the Walbro fuel pump & FMU are needed) will make around 260-270 rwhp with about 300 rwtq. Given the usual average 28% of drivetrain loss, the SC4 now makes around 360 crank hp and 416 crank tq. A tuned SC4 with 9 or more psi of boost will reach 400 rwhp easily with monster tq. The boosted SC4 will make the rear zig-zag and chirps the tires either in 1st or 2nd gear.

A stock 1JZ makes 280 crank hp. With 28% drivetrain loss, it's about 201 rwhp. However, the stock 1JZ is usually dynoed at 191 rwhp. Putting in bigger turbo means more money. But no matter what, there's a limitation to the 1JZ. I haven't seen many 1JZ with single turbo that passed the 350 rwhp line. You can't really feel its zig-zap or chirping tires with the boosted 1JZ.

You'll need to do some research before you say such stuffs, buddy. Here's the list of many dynoed 1JZ out there: http://www.planetsoarer.com/dynolibrary/dynolibrary.htm

I'm happy that I made my decision with the SC4 and turbocharged it.

And talk about the limit of the 1UZ, there's no limitation. It made 1005 rwhp with over 230 mph. Can a 1JZ do that? NO. Check this out: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...all_omega.html The 1UZ is even used in many pro drag cars that run 6 seconds for 1/4 mile.

I respect the 1JZ fans, but I don't know why there's someone that just spoiled the crowd.

Now I am really considering a SC400 (Saw some pretty good deals for some really clean SC400s). Sigh, looks like I must do some more research.

The million dollar question : 2JZ vs 1UZ

I find it funny that you asked that. There were millions of dollars spent in the research and development of the 1UZ. Go with the SC400. Hope you find a nice one

In his signature, it says he has both 92 SC3 and 92 SC4. I even point it out, and we posted on it...

i'm guessing all that info you threw at him, half he knew about.

All in all, STOCK for STOCK, not [going] to change anything on the car,
SC400 is better.

So in the end, SC4 wins. I haven't had any problems yet with the uz, but in a few threads over, ryeno says his 2 jay is dying LOL
