Default Torque Converter

Who has one? Which type? Where did you purchase it from? How much was it to have it installed? I have been trying to do a little research on this upgrade.

Currently I have the WR intercrew ECU, KN intake and removed my center resonator. The car feels much quicker than stock but I am looking for a little more pick up. The torque converter has been recomended numerous times. I want something that will help on the bottom end and also with shifting, in between gears.

I know the TC helps with our sluggish take off, but does it help the car shift quicker? Does it take away from the luxury aspect of the car?

For anyone that has one, please explain what I would expect to see.

Thanks,

Scott

If you want faster shifting, try to find a shiftkit that fits our car. You'll shift harder than you'll ever want to. I don't know about torque converters designed for Lexuses, but generally basic TCs aren't a good idea for luxury or electronic/computerized cars. They are usually made for vintage type drag cars with raw engines that like to get beat on. Is the WR ECU like an S-AFC? You should have your car redynoed every time you put a performance mod on to optimize the S-AFC.

The ECU is not like an AFC, it's pre-programmed and dyno tuned.

I know someone here has been running a TC -- they ran it w/ a ported/polished throttle body and it didn't work too well. Removed the ported throttle body (replaced stock) and it ran like a charm from what I remember.

Which one works better? I was going to get an S-AFC as soon as I finished everything else on my car.

This advances timing, improves shift points and does air/fuel mapping like the SAFC. Resolution is a bit better than the SAFC and you get more out of the car with the timing changes, especially in the low end.

Last question, what is the going street price for the ECU and where is the cheapest place to get one? Are they all self-calibrating or do I have to take it somewhere and have it installed and tuned? Well 3 questions..

"Keith13b" has a aftermarket T/C on his car if I'm not mistaken... Do a search and it should come up...

For price you would have to ask Leo, I don't know what he wants for them these days. It's pretty much a unit you solder in, the harness has a bypass plug and you don't have to do much, just idle the car for 15 minutes and it's ready to go.

I'm just not sure, I've heard good things and bad.. I know of a guy who lives near here with a 93 SC400 who has the TC and I'm going to see if he'll let me ride with him.

I have always heard it was the best mod as well. However it looks like there are only a hand full of people that have them.

Please post your feedback after you have had the chance to ride/drive with someone who has one.
