Default 1uzfe to 7mgte swap

So I am at a decision making point.
The scenario:
I have an sc400 (96)
It has a tranny with MAYBE 6 months left on it if i baby it.
Engine with 160k. Still runs strong, but valves are getting leaky.
I am REALLY tired of the auto.

I dont want a 1jz swap. I dont speak japanese, and dont live in cali, so parts will be hard to source and a long time coming when i need them.

I can swap the tranny, but...
i miss turbo =(

So i got to thinking:
Soarers come with 1jzs...
Mk3 supras were available with 1jzs...
Mk3 supras also came with 7mgtes...
therefore, shouldnt I be able to find/fab mounts for a 7m in my car without too much trouble?

I know, I know, dont flame me for the swap, im just posing a question

besides we cant all do the same thing, and a 450rwph 5 speed sc400 is still a fun car, regardless of how you get there.

a supra from 89+ actually had a different crossmember from 86.5-88. 89+ shared the same JDM mk3 crossmember that had the 1jz, hence the engine mount area was the same i believe. and at that year of 89, the mk3 was first mechically connected to the soarer. hmm i say you can do the 7mgte swap with the right mounts. BUT that was if you had a sc300... 2jz based. your car on the other hand is a sc400, which i think has a different crossmember... dont let this bring you down, 2jz swaps has been done on sc400's so anything is possible. and not that far away to reach good luck!

sorry, this seemed more of a general question to me... not a performance question

good idea. now that you mention it, when i was trying to see if someone had done a similar swap, id seen a lot of 7m to 1u swaps. i should look into that to see if i can do it in reverse.

i was actually thinking of doing that swap. the prerequisite of course is a metal head gasket and arp head studs. at that point that motor is as reliable as anything else.

oh also redo the hard oil lines from the pick up to the pump(bigger) and youre good to go. 7mgte is dirt cheap and after you guy everything to make it work it will still be cheaper then a 1jz. and best of all you can get a mk3 r154 and throw it in. only mod the shifter.

if i had more time and didnt already have a 2jz i would do this for a budget turbo build.

i got flamed for throwing out this idea but i have not even seen anyone even attempt it.

From a bit of research, the engine mounts will have to be fabbed... from most of what I have seen, when people swap in the uz into the mk3 supra, they have to raise the engine quite a bit for clearance. I think the extra clearance the 400s have will work to my advantage... i should have more space to clear objects below the engine.

I am also in Austin and have built hundreds of 7M-GTE's in my life and would be happy to help you out if you need it. My MK3 Supra w/ 7m made 543rwhp before I moved onto other things and I used to work for both SupraSport and MVP Motorsports and some for PowerHouse Racing. I've done just about everything under the sun to these 7M's and would be happy to offer help or answer questions if you need it.

I myself will be going the 1jz or 2jz route w/ my sc300, but props to you for trying something different and unique!
