Why my sig is a lie!
Yeah Bean, it did rev like mad for a pushrod motor, and the sound was wild, ported 2.02 fuelie heads, nice solid roller cam, etc. A friend found an '80 Capri for cheap (u know, with the flared fenders). We did a full '90GT conversion, then dropped that destroked 400 in it (some fabrication, but nothing too hard, my friend Eric owns Mean Street) with a built Turbo400 and 4.10 8.8 trak lok. We painted it fridge white and slapped a big red bowtie on the bonnet, and entered the Super Chevy Show at Englishtown (hey, all they said was Chevy powered). Definitely broke some necks. My friend Dennis yanked the left front wheel in the air on the first run, didn't have time to do a cage before the event, twisted it a bit and couldn't open the driver's door back at the pits, lol. Ended up going to the finals in bracket racing, ended up being a very consistent car. Still, I would never de-stroke a 2JZ, as you mentioned, it's a very oversquare block (always get over/undersquare switched with each other, you know what I mean). I definitely did not know that there were Skylines pushing 13,000+ rpm, that's just wild to me, and i've built up a couple of Ninjas, so I know revs. As far as Ethan's car, I personally would build up a bulletproof 3.3 or 3.4 litre stroker, and not have to worry about a spare motor, but then again, if you're planning on serious track time, as he is, it always pays to have a spare long block in your back pocket.
