Upgrading Intake To Cone Filter
Hey guys, dont really have money to spend on an intake.
Was looking into expanding my airbox into a BFI intake
But was wondering would it be beneficial to remove the stock airbox at the MAF sensor, get an adaptor and replace it with a very large cone filter possibly facing down with an elbow attachment.
or would i just be better off with my stock box?
any and all constructive input is well appreciatied

Thats kinda off the direct subject but at least its a reply, i was actually talking about removing the stock airbox and having a large cone filter to replace it and the matter of if it would have any positive benefit.
on another note that turbonator sounds like a load, seems like it would be more restrictive than anything

I require proof and a description on what it is and see the numbers and do testing b4 i believe that......general rule of thumb you won't make much if any hp off of an intake unless you sucking in a larger volume of cold air....if you modded the airbox and prevented the intake from sucking in hot air then you would be ok....best thing is duct work to channel more cold air to it .....

im also stuck on the decision on an intake mod for my sc, i would go with the injen but its a bit costly for my wallet. as now i have a bunch of sheet metal and plastc i can form, im going to make a cold air wind tunnel from the front of the car routed to the intake box. not sure what im going to do yet.. unless im just gonna extend the intake pipe still using the MAF and then having a cone filter down next to the bumber wind hole. ill have to get a hydro lock though forsure.
...does anyone know how a hydro lock works? and if i can make it myself?

Look into the BFI as it has been tested and proven to provide gains without the risk of hydrolock. Also, you might want to move your license plate to the driver's side if going with the BFI.
A hydrolock? Hydrolock is when your engine sucks up too much water and locks up. Maybe you meant the aem bypass valve since you provided a link for it. From experience, you lose some gains with the bypass valve installed.

hmm but i guess i wont go witha bypass valve anymore. but also its an old pic... i dont run a front license plate anymore
thanks for the heads up on the info though!
yea i was oviously kidding about the worderfull turbonator, i have a cone filter right where the airbox used to be and i noticed that power and everything is the same, except that theirs this cool whitsle from 5000-6800 rpm's
wow you have to go up to 5k just to hear your car wistle, i rather stay at 2k and hear my exhuast roar deep. lol [no criticism btw]

off of an intake? no...dyno sheets with video MIGHT make someone belive that..+22 rwhp would mean atleast a +35hp gain at the crank...
