Default 1994 SC Tail Light Conversion

Hello Members,

I have been helping a member (Natalie777) with her 1994 SC400 and recently, I stripped a crashed SC400 with gold package and was able to buy the tail lights as well. The OEM tails on Nat's car are the standard amber top strip with red on bottom. The new ones are more clear with the red on the top and the bottom has a clear lens, red, and amber. I have a pic on my phone, but it does not want to email it. I was shocked that the harnesses are different and the newer ones have three wedge type bulbs across the top. Has anyone ever re-wired and converted their tales to this kind? Perhaps this was covered before in this forum, but I am not a SC expert.

you will need the harness for the new lights also, it sounds like you have a set of 95-96 tails. Just call around and see who has a set for sale, with that harness it will be a plug and play modification.

you need to buy the right harness or properly convert your existing one.
just make sure you use the right signal wires and proper gauge wires.
all like types should be running in parallel. your dash light will come on either way.

Thanks Brian for starting this for me. Thanks for everyone's responses. They are 95-96 tails. Is the harness sold at the dealership seperately or what is my best bet?

I read somewhere that if the dash lights come on, that there is a seperate module to fix this? I just don't want electrical problems later. Any history of this?

You will also need to modify the flasher unit so it wont give that annoying hyperblink.

You can purchase the tail light harnesses separately....just go to the dealer with the lamp/lense and show them...they should know.

The Tail Lamp Failure indicator will come on. You can purchase the taillamp modulator to sure this, but if you're like me...I can live with that dummy light and the "hyper" signal

Or you can wire up a 12ohm resister to each tail light harness.

i'd paint red the top part of the 94's amber, it'll look a lot better.

you cant cut the wires for the lights on the stock one and wire up the new lights that way so then just have wires for the lights that way the dash light wont come on?
