I have a 1jz and started having this problem as of 3 days ago. A/C is okay, no blinking light but the power steering cuts out at idle. I have to rev the engine for it to come into play. I think I will go with somone suggestion of belt tensioner, I didn't replace mine when the time and acc. belt was replaced. If that doesn't do it then replace the steering rack. Wish me luck.

update: My problem.....

my crank pulley was slowly separating (the center from the outer)-when I turn the A/C on, the outside would stop as the load from the A/C would stop the pulleys, and the crank pulley inner was still mega spinning(because the car was still running). I am getting a new one and putting it on.
