Power Steering Fluid
yes you use trans fluid in the PS system in our cars. you can get away with using regular power steering fluid as well but not recommended. i had to use regular fluid yesterday because my PS fluid boiled over at the track and the only thing i had left was half a quart of regular fluid. so far so good...knock on wood. lol.
uhh not a good idea unless your gona flush it as soon as possible.. trust me been there done that.. had a leaking pressure line drove me nuts every 4days or so had to pour half a bottle of power steering fluid.. well the car came with that bottle so i didnt care to notice the cap said atf.. needless to say i poured and poured p/s fluid for over 6 months and even poured p/s prestone with stop leak.. which helped slow down the leak so i would only add it once every 2 weeks anyway a year later my rack gets stiff i mean stiff and ****.. nearly crashed cuz i let go the steering wheel and it dudnt turn to its normal posistion,.. talk about memory steer.. so .. disconnected return hose.. lifted the car up and drained al lthe fluid.. weirdly its easier to turn the wheel without any fluid while the tires are off the ground compared to while there is fluid.. but yea rack is shot.. it comes and goes the stiffness now.. but its a 210$ rack at my price.. grrr
Dexron is a type of ATF. There is is Dexron, Dexron II, Dexron III, and Dexron IV
Mercon is another type of ATF. No one said it had to be a mercon formula. Only Dexron-type.
And the fluid is suppose to be red. Yours is amber because it's old...
