Ive never heard that but its always a good idea to have a tranny cooler. Stock it has one but its built into the radiator, which i think is dumb. You have the cooling system heated right there...

ATF is single weight it does'nt really matter. Cooler is better, i suppose if you live in some place its gets bellow zero then maybe... From a performance stand point no. That like yes a egr keeps the air very clean yes but not your engine...

Anytime you put any type of extra load on your transmission and converter an additional cooler(s) is an excellent idea.

Extra load being: you installed a high stall converter, making alot more power, turbo'd your car or decided to start drag racing or "standing" on the stall.

They are cheap and easy to install and worth the money

If you have a bone stock SC and do non of the above...don't bother!

The weight of the fluid is not listed on the bottle of ATF, but ATF, and most other fluids, have different kinematic viscosity at different temperature. A lot of fluids have 5-6 times the kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees F compared to 212 deggres. That's a pretty significant change. Automatic transmission fluids needs an ideal temperature range to work with. Transmission components require certain temperature to reach maximum efficiency. Try dyno'ing your car with the transmission at cold and hot temperature. I can bet that you'll lose more power through the transmission when it's cold. There is a reason why the transmission does not allow lockup at low RPM when your transmission is still cold.

Saying that temperature wont matter because ATF is single weight is absurd. Try putting SAE 50 weight oil into your engine without warming up the engine. This concept of warming up the fluid applies in every fluid in our car. We need to be in an ideal range and colder isn't always better.
