Default Need Help Buying a 1995 SC300

I really need any help or experience so i can make a good buy...I've been looking at a 1995 SC300 ..automatic transmission.. It has 158 000 miles and the engine lite is on/flashing?

Questions

1. what are common problems with these models and could the engine check lite mean something serious?

2. the car color is black... is that a stock color option for the sc 300 or should i be suspicious of a rebuild??

3. Can the stock 12 disc cd changer play CD-r ..or cd i make on a home computer?? i hear the sc 300 cd player has trouble with CD-R??

Thank you so much

1. Check engine means nothing as long as the car still runs fine. The 2jzge is bulletproof. Your motor won't blow, break, or even care that the CEL is on unless it's the cam or crank sensors... but then it wouldnt run. If you do blow a motor, who cares.. stock 2JZGE's cost $100 complete, or you can GTE swap.

2. Probably one of the more common colors.

3. It can and does. Perfect? No. Avoid putting 2 sec pauses between songs.

No. Unless your Ghetto McRedneck you want to repaint the engine bay the same color as the car. Glossy and lots of clear.

well the reason i thought painting last would make sense so i don't damage the paint while im putting an engine in. as far as the engine bay it being rattle can black would not look bad. alot of cars engine bays are not the same as the rest of the car. was the ghetto mcredneck comment because of my name on here and me being in Mississippi?

im a little confused here...i know that the int. is missing, but regarding the engine, why not just go NA-T? Plenty of kits out there to use, its just a few bolt-ons away from hitting 400hp. I say rebuild the 2JZ in the car now, get some Supra bucket seats and maybe replace the carpeting...screw the back seat (its not like its a Taxi to begin with). As for the paint don't completely half *** it with Krylon, thats just not right for a car like this IMHO. Find some Royal Sapphire Pearl or some other color that interests you and go from there...
