Default Trunk strut weird problem

Yes it is long known that the trunk struts give out.

I did manage to get a WORKING pair from an SC400 with a spoiler on it, but I can't get them to go on my car. They won't compress enough. Are there ties or something when you buy new ones?

What is a good way to get these suckers on.

Mine were green labeled ones and the OEM ones from the 400 were red label. What is the difference?

My car has a 97+ spoiler. I know that the struts are different for trunks with spoilers and ones without. (At least thats what Ebay tells me...lol)

i had to take off the rubber absorbers that are on the trunk hinges to get mine to fit. then put them back on after the shocks are on

^^ yea you got it.....you have to remove the black rubber stopper clamp things then lift trunk another 2 inches to get em on. they are on the bar that you trunk pivots on. they just clip right back on.

and advanced auto parts has them for 16 and some change ea. strong arm brand.

5:30p arrived 8:00a next day. Didn't use a torch just 12mm,wd, and light tapping of hammer on driver side, passenger side just 12mm. Cylinder travel works fine wife held trunk into position so I could press in socket. Strong Arm
#4508 fit fine. I also have a factory spoiler on the trunk.

I just did mine last Monday. I used the same parts and except for the driver's side ball-joint giving me a slight problem ... the whole job was a breeze. 30 minutes and about $35 later ... now my trunk goes up at the touch of the trunk release!

OP, why would you go out and get a pair of OEM supports when replacements are so cheap, easier to install and better made?

Go buy some replacements and make sure that rubber/foam insert on the top of the trunk arm is removed so the trunk can be lifted to it's farther point.

Good luck ...
