Heeeeeeeeeeeeelllllppppp! (need help on passing smog)
Hey Im selling my car and i have a buyer. I went to get it smogged today and it didnt pass. DAMN! The only thing i can think of is that i seafoamed about a month ago and havent changed the plugs. Could this be a reason? are there any other things i can do to get it to pass? For info, on the inspection report it has:
NO(PPM)
Max AVE MEAS
757 237 920 Fail
696 199 996 Fail
This is the section i failed on
Please help!

you should probably post up the whole sheet, that barely makes any sense.
looks like you failed nox
please post up your hydrocarbon numbers, one without the other is hard to diagnose.
plugs affecting emissions? i guess its possible. can't seafoam affect your cat?

Plugs can effect rather you pass or fail. Alot of times when you fail the nox part of the test it can be remedied with new plugs cant remember off the top of my head if its a hotter or colder plugs though. This is not always the case but has worked on a few friends cars ive worked on in the past. Seafoam could potentially effect the O2 sensors and cats. Blowing out carbon build up isnt always the best thing for those parts
yeah, change the plugs, if your not burning up all of the fuel it will lean it out and then it causes higher combustion temperatures resulting in failing nox terribly but good HC levels. always change plugs after a seafoam anyways.
be sure to reset the ecu when youre done.

I failed the nox portion of the test. the max at 15mph you can have is 757 and i had 920. at 25mph you can have 696 and i had 996. Its a 92 sc400. I forgot i deleted my sig. sorry. I went to a test only station and i asked the guy if seafoaming had anything to do with it or the plugs and he said no. I just wanted to be sure before i pull all 8 fricken plugs. Is there anything i can do to get away with it without replacing the cats?

ur probably right about the plugs. wouldnt it be running rich though if all fual wasnt being burned? or is that just when there isnt enough o2 to match the fuel?

yeah your O2 sensor will notice that the fuel isnt being burned so it will lean out the car.
Well your cats may not be bad. If they are though there not much you can do to them except take them off and replace them. I have heard of a company that reconditions them by dipping them into a solutions or so ive heard. Usually if your cats are bad the ecu will throw a code something like "inefficient cat" or something along those lines. Keep in mind replacing the the plugs may not fix the issue of failing the emission test but its a good place to start.
