How much should I pay?
i would go and start pointing at stuff and offer less than what you think (around 7k maybe). times are bad, theyll probably take it after a couple a days. depends how long the car is on the market too.
I payed about 6k for my 5spd with 128k, and the interior and exterior are at least 8 out of 10. i couldnt justify 2 grand more for the body upgrades and an auto transmission.

The market is terrible right now. It is definitely a buyers market. Unless the seller knows he has a great color combo I wouldn't offer more than $7500, and even then it would be a firm offer.
I personally think the car is worth more than that, but it is the market that dictates worth, not me or any book...

I bought my 97' SC400 with 103k miles for $6500. I definately got it for a bargain, even for private sale. Plus, its my favorite color
. The guy selling it was dumb.
I would say offer around $7000 for private sale, and $7,500-8,000 if its a dealer. Check KBB if you need reference.

Thanks everyone. Definitely agree with dx3 on how the whole point little things out to make the price drop pisses you off but I'll be looking at the car probably on sat. Anything specific to look for? The only thing that makes me lean to the car is the service records.

$6500-7500. Although a lot more factors go in than miles, year, and exterior.
Start at $6500; finish around $7k.
Carfax? How many owners? Any accidents? Do not buy a car without carfax. You'll only be investing $30 for an expensive long-term investment.

but goodluck on the car sil3ntsc
Come on guys; negotiating is the art of the deal. You have to expect haggling even if you don't like it as a seller. All you can do is say "no" and stand firm; take it or leave it. Gonna tell me you don't haggle as a buyer?
I personally wouldn't do that. I hate when someone looks at a car I have for sale and they start pointing out minor little blemishes and expect me to take money off.

I agree on both accounts.
Insulting the seller will not motivate them to lower the price. Now if you (tactfully) point out issues that need to be resolved or "things" that you didn't want to have to deal with when buying a car, that's a part of negotiating. But keep in mind, they may very well say "I already factored that into my asking price". Then where do you go from there??
And it is a buyers market, but you still have to be careful. Carfax and maintenance records are just as important if not more so than the right color combo. You'll be living with the "consequences" of either.
Last thing. Go with a "final number" in mind and stick to it. I went $400 over mine when I picked up my SC and it's just been nagging at me every time I think about something I want to do (suspension, brakes, etc), because $400 of my rehab/mod has already been spent
.

looking at 97 sc300 black on black in VA with 130k miles, 7 out of 10 body wise and it has maintenance records. What should I say as a offer
