Well i got to see the car yesterday, just needs a good detail and the headlights are a little foggy but the guy has every single service record from the lexus dealer. Suspension and drive is smoother than my gs400 I had..

I did do the carfax and found out that it was 2 owners, one accident that carfax says minor damage reported. Now as for the price he was asking 8700 and wont go less than 8200. No rust or body damage just a few small chips

$8200 seems a bit much; esp. with 'minor damage reported.'

my 97 sc4 w/ 63k miles was $10k...

I think you definitely got a good deal because you cant even get that even now that the car is 11 yrs old especially near the tri state areas.

I would say offer around $7000 for private sale, and $7,500-8,000 if its a dealer. Check KBB if you need reference.

My favorite color too!

Makes me feel dumb for paying $5400 for my 1992 SC300 with 137k miles in 2005

The market is terrible right now. It is definitely a buyers market. Unless the seller knows he has a great color combo I wouldn't offer more than $7500, and even then it would be a firm offer.

I personally think the car is worth more than that, but it is the market that dictates worth, not me or any book...

I can't stand tire kickers that come around and try to nit pick every little flaw in the car, it's 10+ years old!!! Personally I have no problem telling somebody to look elsewhere once they do so. Just keep it below $8,000. Here in WA it would go for around $10-11,000.

Since its a VA car I would ensure the State safety inspection was done at least and emission test was run and it passed both. That with all the other papers you have should give you piece of mind mechanically unless he will let you take to a mechanic to also verify.

Good luck.

I paid 5500 for my 95 sc4, I would have definately paid 7-8K for a 97.... But this one was well taken care of... with 180K on the Odometer....

Where in VA is it, maybe one of us local guys in VA has a mechanic to recommend thats closer than Brooklyn! I would verify all the receipts make sure ALL the major maintenance has been done...specifically the 90k along with T-Belt and make a decision that u'll be comfortable with. Also make sure the other known issues in SC's are either fixed or your comfortable that they are not. All these $ amounts being thrown around dont mean much if its a $ amount your comfortable with and the car is solid...then buy it! Verify the safety and emission done and up to date in VA or get them done b4 u buy and drive the car home.

Also i'd verify with owner the extent of the "minor" damage. I know there is some threshold for reporting to carfax with damage just make sure your ok that it was all cosmetic per se.
