That goes along the side to hold the pins... some opt not to use them. When I powder coated my calipers the coating didnt allow me to use this style pin. Instead of using a cotter pin I used LS430 pin retainers P/N-47749-50030 ur gonna need 4 in total 2 for each caliper.

So you used LS430 pins? Aren't they different calipers?

Can I just use the retainer above the circled one alone?

I'm sorry I didnt elaborate... that holds the pins from backing out from the caliper that hold the brake pads in place. It runs along the side of the caliper...

You could if you wanted to... the pin hole diameter for the caliper pins are universal from any 4-piston Lexus GS/LX/LS. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about when u put them on.

I know the "Y" shape retainer goes outside. What about the one in circled in red, does that goes outside or inside the caliper?

No, they are Bendix ( ceramic ). I think OEMs are black also. I think you have Project Mu pads.
