when i flipped up the trunk carpet, i found the entire spare tire area covered with this white paper mache type material...it even caked itself on the spare tire...tried removing it but it was glue down tight....looks quite nasty...i'm not sure if it's the insulation that got wet or what...

any clues?

 

is it that foam stuff near the lug nut and jack tools?

the entire wheel well area and underneath the black foam on each side where you can put your tools....i'll get a pic as soon as i dig the car out of the snow...

 

Sounds like white posterboard that got soaked. Through it out and let the trunk dry.
