ok, well i recently purchased a 1JZ (thanks to Cherplex) . im trying to figure out what i want to run for an ECU/ tuning components. as a lot of you probably already know it has a Precision Turbo (PT 61 w.68 a/r). and 440cc injectors. i curently have an auto ECU that i planned to run in my 5 speed.

should i go with a standalone system? or continue using the auto ECU and piggy back an SAFCII and BCC? i plan on having it tuned professionally when i get the swap done.

what kind of results am i going to ba able to get out of a piggy back vs. a standalone? i need some help!!!!

with 440's all will need is a piggyback or afc .when your injectors get bigger than 720's then you might want to think of a standalone .My homy makes 550 easily with a e -manage and 720 injectors.

 

ya, an e-manage was something i was thinking about, but i've heard some people say some not so good things about it. not sure why though.

 

When tuners cant tune a e-manage they call it crap go with a e manage .you wont have any regrets .you migh want to invest in a hks dli also .its worth every penny.

 

With a 61mm and 440's, a standalone is silly. Get a piggyback that can not only alter fuel delivery but also ignition timing. That will offer you all the tuning you will need to make upwards of 400whp.

If you are getting the car professionally tuned, you should call the shops in your area that have experience tuning Toyota motors, and ask them what they use. I would rather have a comfortable tuner with a more limited tuning device working on my tune to the full capacities of that tuning device than a capable tuner unable to tap the potential of a more potent the tuning device. Even a piggyback that can not alter ignition (like a basic eManage or an SAFC-II) can offer a sufficient tune for the set up you have proposed.

By the way, I think a 61mm on 440cc's is an awesome set up (from the dyno sheets I have seen) to maximize cost efficiency on a 1JZ motor. You should be making great power with a pretty fat power band without breaking the bank.

 

Hey Mike hit up Todd aka Rising_Sun he's in NY and was running emanage blue with his 1J setup. Plus with the patch harness you have tapping into the ecu will be a breeze. For now adding bcc/scc and safc will work but I would just go with emanage blue with all options and a boost controller.
