maybe you could leave the glass and remove all the motors and such.
that would reduce some weight, or is it actually the glass itself.
someone should remove everything but the glass and make it permanent in there. you could even replace the glass with a lighter glass possibly, then you wouldnt have to worry about changing the inside lining and welding metal to your roof.
at least you could still look out of it that way
i dont know how you're not gettin teh hawtees w/ the moonrooff

I dont holla at them. i think i stopped doing that when i was like 16 when i was pimping my second car....1987 Toyota Celica GT. lol. if you have any other advice to pick up the ladies other then "hallerin at em" let me know. lol....im getting a kick out of this thread
thats how Ali lures the ladies, finds a secluded spot reclines the power seats slowly slides the moonroof, and tell her to "look look its shooting star"
but on a side note, the moonroof works wonders for a car with literally no back seat...lool

have you been following me?? lol
oh yeah and +1 on the carbon fiber idea, that would be pretty slick.
plexi-glass would be the lightest, although your car might be easily stolen
for once i actually appreciated my sunroof. i never use it and hate the added weight but it was really cold today and my windows froze. i popped the roof to have a cigarette. the only time in over a year that i have owned the car i actually appreciated this feature.
70-80 lbs seems excessively heavy...I have removed the Sunroof several times now, and that glass roof is no where near that in weight. I would say maybe 20 lbs...Maybe...I can lift and hold it on my fingertips with one hand. While I did not remove the rest of the sunroof assembly, there isn't much more to it...I have a hard time believing the motor and the rest of the assembly weigh that much...
Unless you are turning your car into a pure race car, I think the little savings you would receive by removing the glass sunroof are not worth the effort...There are other ways to remove weight from the car...A CF hood, trunk, rear spoiler, CF doors, and remove much of the interior, and you will lose massive weight, and lose the luxury ride (if removing the interior). The SC door panels are quite heavy. Also, remove the seats and get non-electric seats, another good amount of weight savings...I would not put on CF doors for street use, my opinion though. The CF hood and trunk, nice...
It is easy to remove the headliner once the rest of the interior is out it uses velcro like fasteners to hold it in place.
I really wish I had a hardtop. I'm such a big fan of less weight on the car but I also told myself I was going to get the car as light as possible without making it feel like anything less than a Lexus (i.e. no gutted interior, racing seats, etc) so I can't really justify to myself taking out the sunroof.
I'm definitely interested to see more about it though.
