I had a chance to drive my wife's SC400 this evening, and I will say that in general, the steering response is slow and not fun.
I know that an SC is not a Supra, but, the it would be great to mirror the response of the Supra.
What I mean by this is.... if I turn the wheel 1/4 turn on the Supra vs SC400, the Supra makes the turn more sharply.
Has anyone ever tried to change the gearing in the SC ?
Please dont tell me that the SC is a luxmobile and that is just how its designed. I would say that 90% of the participants on this site are young enthusiasts who prefer to squeeze maximum fun and performance from their rides.
I'd say yea maybe most of us on here are young. And I think that the Supra just has a different system from the SC. Like I was comparing Camrys and Accords. The steering on the 97 camry LE is a lot smoother and softer than that on the '02 Accord LX. But also, it could be that the wheelbases are different, and it could be why the Supra has a sharper turn.
The tilt etc has nothing to do with how the # of turns of the steering wheel vs the quickness of the turn.
So,
does anyone have any idea if the gearing is compatible or can components be changed out?
I do not know anything about the gearing, but I hear from people's experiences that if you change out the steering bushings it will make a huge difference. Someone compared it to driving a boat before the change to much sharper turning.
Probably the best way to do it. also some good coilovers add to the sharpness ALOT
Yeah, not to mention that the SC came with sway bars that kept luxury in mind. That's why many upgrade to supra sway bars. Also the stock suspension is kind of mushy to keep with the luxury name.
