Default Starter locking?

'92 SC400, everything stock

Drove fine last night. Has had a history of not exactly starting up very strong. A new battery usually strengthens its startup but returns to a slightly sluggish startup after a few days.

After about 13 hours of leaving it off, I go to cut it on again and I hear a clicking noise. It did not turn over at all. I thought maybe my battery had drained. For the skeptics, I immediately checked the lights which were off. Got a battery tester and it was around 12.6V. Battery was fine. Cleaned the battery terminals, they were fine.

Just in case, I got a battery booster out, though still the same clicking noise. Apparently I can put it in drive and I'm still able to physically push the car around. I tried locating the starter, but I can't seem to find it..

Perhaps it's another problem, though. Any suggestions are appreciated.

check your engine ground....most likely thats what the problem is....mine would do the stupid clicking all the time until i cleaned and tightend the engine ground....follow of the battery ground to underneath the engine near the oil filter....thats the one thats prolly causing the roblem....

engine ground was fine. a little dirty but apparently fine for the most part. even tried a direct connection from the battery to the engine and the same result.

and the clicking isn't continuous. it only clicks once, which is right when i turn the key. if it truly is a starter problem, then i'll try to remember to take some pics of everything when i'm performing surgery.

mine does the exact same thing yours was doing i replaced the battery too and worked fine for few weeks ,then the slow cranking but still fired up .then my wife went to come home from work last night and nothing just one click when you turn key . i did notice that my ground cable is getting very hot when you try to continuosly start but still just clicks , i pulled up the aldata for removing startere and it looks like major surgery the complete top of engine has to come off .who ever heard of a starter located under the freakin manifold that is crazy ,oh well guess no crazier than my mit 3000gt have to takke intake polenum off to change sparkplugs looks like $$$$$$$$ for mechanics .i bet lexus dealer wants 800.00 to 1000.00 to replace freaking starter tom
