Default SC Hardtop Convertable...?

Just a thought but wouldn't it be cool if it was possible to convert the SC to a hardtop convertable? I'm sure it is possible, but how much would this cost...?

If you look around, you'll find pictures of SC convertables. I've always assumed that Toyota sold the soarer in Japan as a convertable... Did they sell it with a hard top?

They didn't sell the Soarer as convertible in Japan. Those pics are of custom jobs someone had done. There are companies here in the US that do them too. I've seen convertible SC's in the Dupont Registry before. As far as making the 1st gen SC a convertible hardtop you could probably buy 2 brand new SC430's for how much it would cost.

It really depends on the car. A few shops say it can be done for around 10K...

I do believe they had a small run of convertibles in Japan before they even started selling the SC series here. I have read an article before(will try to find) that they did have some and someone I know said their Aunt had one imported( back around '90).

Post Mk2 Soarer Convertible

There was indeed a small production run of convertible Soarers back in the late '80s.......though it was the MK2 and not the MK3 Lexus SC400/SC300......

Oh man. I would not buy one of those. I guess it is the time when they made ES250s which were horrible too. Talk about a boxy looking car. Glad that aspect of the 80s has gone. But then again, the SC400 helped change the way cars looked. Even today the car(SC400) still looks modern and many companies have adopted styles originally implemented in the SC400. Taking a look at the models coming out we are in for a big change over the next few years in vehicle design.

BTW did you guys see the new GT40?!!!

Yeah that is an ugly design, but I betcha it is worth a good penny today for collectors. I would take one and seat on it for a while then sell it as a rare collectors car one day IF the market demands the car.

It really stinks , it looks like a small truck from the side view...
