First off, thank you 3Rotor for sticking with this thread your advice has been invaluable...especially for a newbie like me. I have also pm'd Hill on questions and he's been ultra-helpful as well. This stuff is awfully overwhelming. Basically what I want to know is what wheel/tire combination will give me a modestly aggressive stance WITHOUT rolling fenders or pulling lips or all that jazz. No offense to anyone whose done it, but I don't want to run the risk of damaging the vehicle. Also lookin to upgrade to Brembo, Supra or Stoptech calipers up front in the future. BTW this is for a 97 SC400 with 1st gen IS wheels on it. Thanks guys.

3rotor id like to keep it to 18 front and rear i might be willing to downsize the rim width to 10in front and 11 rear but im trying to keep up with my buddies with the 350Zs
is there anyway to get away with a 18x11 18x12 just by rolling the fenders and a bit of camber?

As far as brakes go, that would depend on the manufacturer's disk designs. In other words, general rule of thumb, BBK equals less lip.
also look into the LS400 brake setup.

Fitting 11 inch rears would be no issue. I know of 12's fitting under cut fenders, no pull. These measurements are relative to your desired ride height and choice of tires.

First things first, settle on your wheels and tires and mount them on the car and see what clearances you have. I don't foresee and issues with the offsets you are looking at. Once the wheels are torqued down and placed back on a level surface, this is where you can start experimenting and calculating the spacer thickness you may be able to add.
I went through several spacers. I thought the car looked aggressive from the beginning with no spacer. One day a 5mm looks good, the next day an 8mm, and then it leads to finding more aggressive wheels; it's a downward spiral from there on getting the right stance. I have roughly a millimeter or two left of inner fender lip.

I have skimmed through the first 100 pages (!) of this thread.
I am presently taking my 1995 Renaissance Red SC300 back as close to showroom condition as I can, within reason, considering costs, mileage (145K), etc.
I don't want to do any modifications to the body of the car, but I do want to put some beefy, aggressive looking tires/wheels on the car. From what I have learned, it appears that 18 x 8.5, 245/40/18 and 18 x 9.5, 265/35/18 +35 offset all around is perhaps my best choice. I don't want to sacrifice ride quality/comfort, and I don't think that I want to have to lower the car (ie..I don't want to mess with the suspension). I don't anticipate that I will put more than 8 or 10K miles on the tires per year.
I have looked at wheels on the web until I am about dizzy.
I would like to keep costs as low as is feasible. Some of the "package deals" that I have found offer wheel and tire brands that I have never heard of...should these "deals" be avoided? I would love to find some nice used rims, but those kind of finds are rare down here in south central Arkansas.
Finally, I want to just be able to put the new wheels/tires on and forget about them....I'm not much of a mechanic.
I am open to all suggestions and advice....how much am I going to have to spend, what brands, who to buy from, and anything else that I need to know.
Here is what I have now...

Wheel diameter doesn't play too much on clearances, it comes down to your tire choice. If you want to go 18's in the rear, you would go down a profile size. Overall diameters would be virtually identical.
Fitting 11 inch rears would be no issue. I know of 12's fitting under cut fenders, no pull. These measurements are relative to your desired ride height and choice of tires.

As long as you get wheels that are 5 x 114.3 and a 60.1 mm hub bore you'll be fine. Most wheel manufacturers will ask your vehicle make and model and provide the hub centric rings if needed. The wheel specs you listed should fit nicely under factory fenders.
Honestly, if all you are going to do is cruise around every so often, off brand wheels and tires are not going to hurt or cause any damage. Even cheaper products have to follow DOT standards, no issues there.
Is there a reason for your search of a 12" width?
