Hey all, I'm looking at purchasing an SC300 and have roughly $10.5k budgeted for the car & 6spd motorset, which I want to get all at one time. Found a salvaged SC in cali for $4k (the link here)
I also pulled a carfax on the vehicle and it does show a salvage title/certificate issued 11/14/1995 @ 15,796 miles. Frame damage check shows "no issues reported". Only other thing I see that may be a potential problem is the number of previous owners. I seeing "new owner reported" on: 01/03/1996, 01/17/1997, 09/01/2000, 12/08/2004 and then sold at auction 08/18/2006.
So in essence, what do you guys think??

Car looks clean it's salvage but no frame damage so that's not too bad. I would try to get a better price because of salvage. Are you doing the install yourself you might be cutting it really close with the 10.5K budget for the gte and getrag.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, the car does look clean and it seems to have the '97 - '00 body upgrades which is plus. I did ntoice that SC400 badge as well. I'll give these guys a call today and get the scoop.
I'm an ex-Supra TT guy, before I moved over to 350Z's briefly, so I'm familiar with the removal/install. I actually had a 93.5 hardtop TT 6spd. that I parted out a fews years back and am kicking myself for doing so. Oh well, divorce and all that stuff, you know how it goes. I do still have the seats and the rear end laying around in storage.
Anyway as far as the motorset goes, I've been pretty much going off of what I've been reading via searches on here as well as Club NA-T. What I've seen so far is roughly $5.5k to $6.4K.

Thanks again fellas for the suggestions and opinions.
I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM IT MYSELF! .... One will never be able to sell it if it's a lemon with a salvaged title. The car has been pieced together, that's why it has a SC400 emblem on the back and the 97 + grill in the front.
It's amazing how someone can make a totaled out car look OK to a prospective buyer. Their are a lot of other SC cars out their so good luck hunting one down. Maybe the one in Dallas is a good find.
