Default SC400 = killer

On saturday afternoon, I was driving my 96 SC400 to Goodwill to pick up some hillbilly garb for a monster truck show at 7pm in East Lansing, Michigan. I am cruising down the highway at 60mph -both hands on the wheel- when a deer jumps out of the trees and onto the road. By the time I am able to react and apply brake pressure, the deer is two feet above the ground, flying horizontally into the grassy area that separates the two ways of traffic. Blood was splattered all over my car. The deer's entire intestinal tract was under my hood. It smelled rotten in seconds.

The deer was killed. The SC took it like a champion. The front bumper is dented in the shape of a 'V' about 8 inches depressed from its normal position, but the rest of the car is perfectly fine now that I have scrubbed out the engine bay. I have gathered that our cars were built to kill animals.

I will get a chance to talk with insurance on Monday. I will get a chance to post pics here before the night is over. Nevertheless, props to the SC for being able to kill Bambi so efficiently.

Glad you're ok -- and the SC's ok of course...

Just think, if you had a truck you could've thrown the deer in the back. I had to do that once-- the venison was repayment for damage done. It was a 100 lb spike too, so young and tender. And it was 40 deg outside, so it was good overnite.. until it could be dressed the next day.

Too bad you don't have a truck.

The hood is virtually untouched. While driving, it is impossible to notice any imperfections.

I am definitely unwilling to settle for a 96- bumper. 97+ bumper is definitely going to be the way to go.

More than a few people have told me about people and not deer dying in these types of accidents. I definitely am glad not only that the deer was ~80lbs but also that I hit it just right so that it didn't roll onto the car.

Wheels are 19x9+38f w/245 19x9.5+40r w/275. I bronzed out my emblems as the obnoxiously gold factory color clashed bad. The front emblem was well integrated to the dead deer and is considered a loss.
