Default Instrument panel lights (?)

I read that you can replace the dash panel bulbs of the pre- '98 model year with the '98 model year bulbs which are significantly brighter. Has anyone done this?

It's good to be back! After the ES300 debate, i had to chill for awhile. I was stirring the pot too much.

I can't find the thread man......help! I'm not gonna do it myself I just want to make sure that I can get the sweet look of the '98 by replacing the bulbs only.

If you can find the post let me know.

Exactly how does this work. The bulbs actually allow that much more brightness. Is there any other mods needed to accomplish this or what? I'm taking it to the dealership to get it done, so i just want to mak sure we're talking about the same thing.

I'm not sure if it is going to be 98' bright, but it is brighter than it was originally. I just bought all new bulbs(the large ones... there are large and small bulbs in the cluster, I left the small ones in tact) from the dealer. The parts guy said the new bulbs are better quality than bulbs made back in the day... The technology is better today than it was then in bulbs too...

The 98' cluster is a bright white/greenish hue look to it, maybe it can be accomplished...

That thread may have been lost in the server change over! Quite a few threads were lost over a 2 day period that could have been one also... Sorry I could not help anymore than that..

Thanks for the info. I wonder if I should replace the entire dash pod. I can do it for $450. I will try just the bulbs first since I can get it done for about $36. If that doesn't work I will get the entire thing replaced. I love the look of the newer displays.

Here is the link to my old pics. I have actually put some fatter rubber on and also got the window's tinted bronze since these were posted. I need to get some new pics together.

Peace....
