last week i noticed that there is a strong wheel bearing like noise in the rear of the car, only happens after about 45 min of driving. at around 20-65 mph so i thought ok bad wheel bearing(s). but since i work at a toyota dealership as a service adviser. i asked one of the techs to take a look at it for me. so we raised it up in the air and se the cruise at 50 no noise, then after about 25 min of checking everything we lowered it down and lowered the soeed to about 25mph and then after like 5 min the loud houling noise started, coming right from the rear diff. i have 138k miles on my sc and the fluid has been changed in the diff to mobil1 synthetic about 3 months ago. fluid level is perfect. has anyone ever had a problem with the diffs in SC's? i mean i have an extended warranty for drivetrain coverage. so it covers all internal parts of the rear diff and also the outer case. just wanted to see if anyone had a problem like this, another thing the noise goes away after like 10 min.
my diff pretty much got grinded to shavings about 2 months after replacing the fluid with some redline gear oil. all i heard was clicking noises like a welded or 2 way diff. then eventually it got to the point where i get off the line and it clunks until the gears find each other. turns out quite a few gears was stripped and thats why it clunked. suggest looking for a TT rear end or a rear end from aliga or R&J.
i actually bought an extended powertrain warranty when i got the car for 5 years and i gave them a call yesterday and they said they will cover the diff. lexus part $1700 so i am happy about that. i just have to get my car in on monday and have them tear it apart for the inspector to see the damage, and btw mine makes like a clicking nopise the the first take off in the morning, only once after that its fine other then the noise.
