need help... brake rotor was burning hot...
ok, I noticed a strong burning smell after I got to work today, but didnt have time to check it out. I came home and the burning smell is still there. I locate the smell and its coming from the left driver side wheel area. I take the wheel off first thing I notice is the lug nuts are very hot, I then touch the rotor and it is very hot! actually the rotor and caliper area were very hot. I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary, there was no smoke or anything like that, the car brakes fine. I'm taking the car to a mechanic tomorrow to see whats up.
anyone have any ideas?

Bad caliper or kinked brake hose is usually the culprit. Either may not be releasing the brake fluid pressure.
Could also be the wheel bearing.

If you have the time and tool you can get a rebuild kit. Most of the time its more time and cost efficient for the average person to replace the caliper. I would also look at the wheel bearing and brake line that were previously mentioned.
It depends on what you want.
On the Classifieds section, one person is selling a set of SC300 calipers right now.

Or, you can start looking at brake swap options such as a Supra or LS400 brake kit. The catch here, is you will also need the corresponding brake pads, rotors and possibly brake lines.

I’m having this issue and I’d like to revive this thread if that’s ok. Where is it recommended to purchase SC400 callipers from? I see this online store with $120 and $55 core charge, but I can’t tell if how that works over the internet.

Is there a recommended outlet for these sorts of parts? How big of a deal is this DIY? It looks like bleeding the brakes is the biggest headache of the job. Am I missing something?
