Default Any help please...

Jeese oh lo wieze, my F*%^ing HID just got fried today. One of my lights went out while I was taking the wife to dinner, got out of the car to see what happened, I noticed a strange smell, you know the smell you get form burning plastic. I immediately popped the hood, as I thought my engine was on fire, (strange I knew my car was not on the recall). Then I see smoke coming from a unit my mechanic installed, well you guessed it right. This stupid son of a (oops) HID System burned my lights system and the unit ($580 in the trash + $90 labor). Some one in the other board did mention not to use aftermarket-HID systems because there voltage is too high or something like that. It’s no wonder I see soo many HID bulbs out on other luxury cars. I got a pair of those cheap bulbs from carlights.net for the wife’s car (99 grand prix) almost 2 year ago with no problems at all. The lights are a bit less bright than mine but I’m willing to get the cheaper stuff if this is the case.

I took some pictures, when I get my piece of junk scanner to work I’ll post the pics. I got the pics of the carlights.net bulbs on my wifes car compard to mine, there almost the same.

Default No, they were the real HID (m)

they were the real HID conversion kit. What was suprising is that the one from the other site carlights.net were pretty close to mine.

uhhh...dude that sucks. How long have you had your HID's? I just got mine in not too long ago, and you're scaring me. What brand of HID's and why the hell did you pay someone to install them? Weren't yours just plug and play? Mine were.

And...do you have some kind of affiliation with www.carlights.net? I smell something fishy...

...but I may be wrong

Glad I didn't order the HID kit. The voltage of these lights are usually less using, only 35watts each/bulb. The only thing I can think of that could actually cause this is the ballast. When did this happen when, you just turned on your lights or when, you were driving for a long while? Sorry, about your loss. BTW, what kind of HID kits are you guys using? There are so many retro HID kits out there?

The HID's should be replacable under their warrenty. And besides I have NEVER seen a set of ricer bulbs that even come close to a true HID . And, if you use the higher wattage bulbs, you greatly run the risk of frying your lens assembly and wire harness which is more costly than a new HID system. Plus, their usable light is actually reduced do to the coating on the lenses; so your paying more, for less.

If the HID's are under a year old, it should be a free replacement. Some companies go up to 3 years on the warrenty. Sounds to me like some water got into the ballast. Check the install and make sure it wasn't installed into a "wet" area.

The HID's actually run at a much lower wattage (25-35 watts) so they run cooler too. Maybe you just got a bad unit, call the manufacturer and get it swapped. You might have to pay for shipping.
